Butts County was formed from Henry and Monroe Counties on December 24, 1825. It was Georgia's 70th county. It was named after a Georgia Militia member who was killed in battle against the Creek Indians during the War of 1812, Capt. Samule Butts. The county seat is Jackson and was named in honor of Andrew Jackson.
