Mr. Thaxton attended superior court here a few weeks ago, and contracted a severe spell of grippe, which grew more and more stubborn and resulted finally in his death. No man in the county had a better name than Mr. Thaxton and expression of sorrow are heard on all sides. He was a consistent member of Liberty Baptist church and leaves an honored family to perpetuate his name and his virtues. The burial will take place at Towaliga cemetery.

RESOLUTION

Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God to remove from us brother Henry C. Thaxton, thereby the golden chain is again broken.  Brother Thaxton was made a Mason in this lodge January 4, 1892, and was ever afterwards an exemplary Mason, always found practicing the tenets of our noble order and attending the meetings of his lodge when it was possible for him to do so.  He departed this life on May 12, 1900, in the 61st year of his age, he was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father, never shirked a duty whether in war or peace, but was always found battling for his right.  He was a good man and a Christian he has fought a good fight, his labor on earth is finished, and we feel that our loss is his eternal gain, and that he now rest in peace with  Celestial lodge above eternal in the heavens.  Be it therefore resolved:

1. Brother Henry C. Thaxton life as a Mason ad Christian is worthy for emulation.

2. That we deplore the loss of our brother, we bow in humble submission to the will of God who doeth all things well.

3.  That we extend his family and loved ones our heartfelt sympathy and assure them at the high esteem in which he was held by the members of this lodge, and direct them to the blessed Christ for cheer and comfort.

4.  That a blank page in our minutes be set apart to his memory and that lodge room be draped in mourning for sixty days.

5.  That The Jackson Argus and the Jackson Record be requested to publish this preamble and resolutions and that  a copy be furnished the family of our deceased brother under seal of this lodge.
